Fibre Technologies LLC was founded in 2000 and has been committed to the development, sales and production of lightweight high-performance packaging since that time. Our most important contribution has been in the development of ultra-lightweight and lightweight corrugated case material in basis weights under 90gsm. These LW substrates have been engineered into composites that achieve high CD-SCT levels and that are more efficient than traditional containerboard at lower unit cost using 100% recycled fiber. This transformation to lightweight HP delivers benefits to the mill, the converter and the end-user. Typically fiber reductions of 30-50% are possible. Conversely ECT performance can be improved significantly at any given basis weight.
Super lightweight 100% recycled corrugated case material is still viewed by many as inappropriate for use in agricultural, fresh meat, poultry and other high-stress packaging applications. Contrariwise it has been demonstrated that recycled-fiber based containerboard in very light basis weights, if engineered properly, can perform as well as heavier, virgin-based and more expensive grades. Given this, it is likely that even export markets will be developed for these engineered substrates.
